I remember Channel 9 calling this the “storm of ‘83” and it was the first big snow storm that I really remember. The snow was deep enough to go sledding in the cul de sac which was exciting. It may have been the first time I went sledding from the side of one neighbors house, across two driveways and into another’s yard. That must have been 200 feet long or more. Also, the neighbors were pretty tolerant of the kids putting snow trails across their driveways, though I can remember one neighbor (a Congressman) getting stuck in one of those once with his old, early 1970s GM midsize. Poor guy probably spent 3 hours getting home from the Hill that day.
I don’t recall getting another huge snowfall for another four years when we got the double-whammy storms of ‘87. We were out of school for 10 days.
Meanwhile, my 4 y/o doesn’t even remember sledding since the snow drought has been so bad…
