Coffee Wars? Comparing two leading coffee chains footprint in major American cities. IIRC, DC was an early Starbucks stronghold.

I don’t drink coffee, but put me down for #teamdunkin because I do eat donuts.

Violent Femmes - Kiss off — Live from Coachella, April 13, 2013 (by coachella)

I thought they were never getting back together. I suppose there is a lesson for the guy in that Taylor Swift song, don’t give up hope dude!

So much enthusiasm too!

I still miss Phil Hartman, it’s been 15 years.

It’s been said many times before, but it bears repeating: Memorial Day is not a day for celebrating the military. It’s a day for honoring the military dead. A more appropriate gesture would be an MLB-wide black armband. An even better gesture would be a pregame moment of silence, without anything on the uniform. But as is so often the case nowadays, merchandising and pandering trump common sense.

Sterling continues messing up routine stuff (like the score or where a ball is hit) and Waldman continues cleaning up after him. This produces uncomfortable, sometimes cringe-inducing radio. It also makes it impossible to follow the game.

Sterling doesn’t paint the word picture — he finger paints it.

Still, this is their ninth season together and there’s a segment of Yankee fans that feels Ma and Pa are like family. They don’t care about the rough spots. And when it comes to baseball on the radio, the likability factor is huge. It cannot be manufactured. While it doesn’t drive the ratings, it plays a factor in keeping them healthy.

Back in the mid 1990s I’d catch Yankees games via 770 AM (they are now on 880 AM) and John Sterling and Michael Kay seemed fairly good. I might not have been discerning as then and at the time they may have been pretty good, particularly before the Yankees got really good. Kay moved onto YES Network and Sterling was paired with a few people before Suzyn Waldman joined him.

Sterling has a good New York voice, but he calls fly balls so badly that Bob Carpenter makes fun of him. Waldman does not have a great voice, but I think she’s the better of the two.

Last month, I had a bit of an epiphany listening to Yankees game coming back from an evening out. Through the static of my car radio, Sterling didn’t seem as bad. Maybe it was just nostalgia, but Sterling seemed perfectly fine, unlike listening via MLB Gameday when I can only handle a few innings.

Oh and I’m not going to speculate on who might replace them, that got me in trouble last year. I hope I’m wrong about that too.

This is fun. I’m kind of surprised the entire Commonwealth of Virginia has been ignored by Mr. Zimmerman though.

WFY: Bryce Harper appeared to earn the respect of the Phillies (especially Hamels) last season, but what do the fans think of him?

KMc: Bryce Harper is the guy we love to watch, and love to hate. I think in Philadelphia we can respect any player who goes all out every time they take the field, and that is exactly what Harper does. Sure, he’s a punk and maybe feels a little entitled form time to time, but he brings it on the field and at the plate and for that he has our respect, or at least my respect. He also speaks his mind and has a good respect for the game. What is there not to like about that?

He’s the guy we hate now, but would take on our team in an instant. You guys don’t really deserve him. He’s a Philly kinda guy. Can we have him? We’ll give you John Lannan back…

The Planning Commission voted to extend the arena’s operating permit for 15 years, during which time the arena’s owners could either make plans to move or substantially improve the transportation hub.

I’ve been told it was a sin that they tore down the original Penn Station. The current one is just miserable.
